Hamilton Fly Fishing Charters
Fishing report
for
Palm Beach Florida

The winter fishing is well underway here in Palm Beach.  Winter cold fronts are pushing all kinds of species down the coast.  We have been having great action with fly on jack crevalle and spanish mackerel.  Very large schools of both offering spectacular surface feeding frenzies.  Some very nice mackerel in the three to four pound range caught recently, and they make a six weight reel just sing.  Jacks in the five to over twenty-five pound range are very plentiful for anyone looking for a serious tug of war.

Jacks are Wild

There are good numbers of tarpon in the area, schools of migrating fish heading south.  In years past, these fish tend to cooperate as well or better than the spring tarpon.  Ladyfish are also moved in for the winter, a good alternative in windy weather.

The sailfish are showing better than the past couple of seasons.  We have already had several good shots at sail on fly, and the next couple of months we'll be focusing on them any time the weather cooperates. The dolphin have thinned, but there are still days when they seem to be everywhere. And the first schools of king mackerel have arrived.
