Time to fish.  Why now?  Our weather, that is so perfect for a great fishing trip won't last all winter.  Sometime soon we'll experience a typical cold front that cools the water and slows the fishing.  Don't wait if you can help it.

I had a bad experience with redfish this week.  I found a lot of fish but almost none took the fly.  I know these fish will turn on soon.  They require a better condition and I think this morning's weather was part of the change.  Rainy and overcast, but not cold.  I look for these fish as my target for this week.

Small snook and larger trout were plentiful in both Sarasota and Boca Grande in the last few days.  They will take small flies or 1/16th oz. jigs fished slowly.  For those who like fast action on a medium size fly rod, the ladyfish are running amok in Sarasota.  And their big, too.  When your fishing these tackle busters you might pick up a few pompano like Jesse Jones did last week.

So all the components are there; good weather; lots of fish and light winds.  Oh, don't forget me.  I'm ready too.

Tight Lines,
Pete
