Hurricane Wilma struck a hard blow to the area, but the
devastation is not nearly a bad as one might perceive from news reports.
Most all the guides in the area are back in business, and fishing is good.
Some of the outer islands have all but vanished, and many of the inside
passages have changed. Damage to some stretches of mangrove will take
years to recover. While it is true that many of the accommodations south of Marco Island remain closed, there are accommodations available in Naples. If you have been considering a trip to the area, or if you have reservations for a fishing trip; I encourage you to go. The fishing is good and quite honestly many of the guides and other businesses in the area could use your support.
