Awful cold this morning.  At least that is what I thought when I arrived at Uncle Henry's.  The weather always has a lot to do with fishing and today was no exception.  The cool, windy conditions indicated a high pressure area over us and this was to slow the fishing in the morning.  Fortunately, the afternoon warmed considerably and the fishing picked up.

Snook and Seatrout that were inactive in the am, began to feed a little in the afternoon.  The wind came up from the northwest and we moved to the canals along Gasparilla Island for grouper, snapper and snook.  We couldn't get a grouper large enough to keep, but several snapper to 18 inches were taken along with a variety of sheepshead, jacks and pompano.

For a day that did not look promising, we managed forty or fifty fish of all varieties.  Seemed better in hind sight than it felt during the trip.

Thursdays super windy conditions did not discourage Doug and Sandy Barton of Sarasota from throwing the fly around the harbor.  Again the day started slow and got better as the day went on.  Sandy seemed to have the magic hand and took several trout, ladyfish and jacks in the Whidden Creek area.  A new Sage XP six weight rod handled the wind beautifully in Doug's hand and made catching the smaller fish a lot of fun.

We need a bit of warm weather with a lot less wind for the fishing to get really good on the flats.  Baring a continuation of this unusual weather, the fishing will improve in about two or three days.  If you are starting your Thanksgiving vacation early try fishing the afternoons on Tuesday and Wednesday.
