Fishing out of Chokoloskee has started to improve
dramatically. Small Schools of Redfish can be found around outside oyster
bars and beaches. Recent rainfall has increased Snook activity.
Sightfishing in the shallows remains tough with the warmer water but will
also be getting much better. I had the pleasure to fish with Tom Tripp and
Russ Powers in the Red/Snook tourney of Collier Co. We placed first in the
fly fishing division in the two day event. I can honestly say I've never seen two guys fish that hard. Fishing out of Flamingo has been on fire. Redfish can be found with relative ease tailing and milling on the massive grassflats. Snook and Tarpon are also around but not in as great numbers. In the recent Ranger 'hunt for the reds' out of Key Largo, I got to fish with John Henniger of Jacksonville. He's a tour regular that needed a fill in. We placed 24th out of about 90 boats. With 11 large at stake, stiff local talent came out of the wood work. Bonefishing out of the upper Keys has been the summer time favorite
with some massive fish being spotted and caught. Bill Popfinger, Jr had a
nice evening releasing three with crabs and one on fly. Matt Cotton
released his first Good fishing! |
