Mosquito Lagoon Florida 01.27.03
So…. what's been going on in the Indian River Lagoon? Lots of cold, wintry weather. Last year's mild weather pattern through the winter months would be quite a welcome change right now. In fact, last Friday we experienced snow flurries over Mosquito Lagoon-can you believe it????? .... More>>>

Jacksonville Florida 01.13.03
The inshore fishing is on one day and off the next. Maybe it has something to do with all of the fronts that have passed through this area in the past few months. There seem to be plenty of nice reds in the shallows, but getting them to bite on a consistent basis is tough... More>>>

Sarasota Florida 01.12.03
Anglers on the Snook Fin-Addict fished the flats of Sarasota Bay and Charlotte harbor during the past week catching and releasing trout, redfish, snook, bluefish, flounder and ladyfish on lures and flies. Although the action was not hot, it was steady. The fastest action was on the deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay, while anglers working shallow potholes scored if they were persistent... More>>>

Upper Florida Keys 01.11.03
Cold. It may not be cold by your standards in Maine or Seattle, but 50 in the Keys is a blizzard to the fish and folks that make their home here. Fishing the flats and shallows is dictated by these conditions. Understanding the movements of the fish as it relates to the water temperatures is key in... More>>>

Mosquito Lagoon Florida 01.08.03
Cold fronts have been hitting us pretty regularly, dropping the temperatures into the 40’s early morning but then getting into the 60’s and sometimes 70’s by the afternoon. Water levels are not real low and have remained steady down in the Lagoon. The water clarity is outstanding. We’ve been getting redfish and spotted seatrout on fly... More>>>

Upper Florida Keys 11/28/02
The cool weather remains in the Florida Keys. As the fish adjust their feeding habits to the warming benefits of a bright sun, they'll eagerly take flies, artificial and live bait. Bonefish can be found traversing shorelines and edges of flats that have warm water falling off a shallow flat. If the wind is up, work windless shorelines or leeward island spots with little current... More>>>

Apalachicola Florida 11/17/02
W’ve cried wolf a couple of times already this fall but this time I’m pretty sure that FALL is FINALLY here! (just bought my first fire log as proof positive) In years past we have experienced regular cold fronts through our area beginning the end of September that positively affect the Trout & Redfish catch by pushing the bait to deeper water. We’re about 2 months late but if the 6-1/2 pound (26-inch) Speckled trout that... More>>>

Key West Florida 11/14/02
Our next cold front is here and by week's end we will have temps in the high 60's at night and in the mid to high 70's during the day.  This is good news to local anglers who have had enough of the long Indian Summer this fall.  The remainder of November and December and January should be good for Bonefish, Permit and baby Tarpon in between cold fronts... Getting Bonefish to swim into the net can be quite challenging, especially when the fish are over 5 pounds.  At the end of the battle, they will usually swim around you or the boat in circles.  If in the boat in water too deep or bottom too soft to wade, then you must... More >>>

Rusty Chinnis, from Longboat Key, FL and I fished Charlotte Harbor for tarpon on Friday. We found tarpon from 10 to 30-pounds rolling along seawalls and around canal mouths. Since the water was deep, we used sink tip and full sinking fly lines to get our flies down to the fish. My combination of an Orvis Depth Charge line and a white bunny fly worked best. I jumped 3 tarpon and landed one, a 10-pounder. These fish are great on an 8 or 9-weight fly rod!... More >>>
