No Slip Loop Knot for
Attaching Flies to Leader |
||||
| This is a terminal knot that I learned a long time ago. Somehow it
faded from my everyday memory and use. Recently while trying to find a
suitable knot for use on a rather finicky brand of fluorocarbon, I re-discovered this
marvelous knot. I now seldom use any other knot when attaching saltwater flies. Properly tied and seated this simple knot consistently test as close to 100 % as any terminal knot in my repertoire. The two keys to successfully tying this loop knot are the correct number of turns relative to the size of the leader material and lubricating the knot prior to synching down.

| Some anglers will use this knot for shock leaders as large as 80 lb test. Whenever I attempt to use this knot on anything much larger than 40 lb test, my turns have habit of disappearing during the tightening process. For large diameter shock leaders I rely on the Homer Rhode Loop Knot, a knot which has never failed me on leaders over 40 lb test. |
