"Clousers"   continued

Like the Deceiver, another saltwater classic, the Clouser Deep Minnow has been interpreted, modified, and re-designed by countless tiers.

The following variations/modifications have found their way into my fly box.

Tri-color "Clouser"   olive/chartreuse/white is a popular combination with many Keys guides.  Note the use of waterproof market to darken top of tying thread, and the use of two types of flash material.   Copper or gold flash on the top and pearl Flashabou between top and bottom wing. Chartreuse over white is a dynamite all-round combination.  For use in clear open water, gills have been added with a marking pen, and the eyes have black pupils.  Almost all pelagic minnows have silver eyes with black pupils.

Marabou for the underwing was use on this "Clouser" style fly.  This one is a proven redfish producer.  Similar flies tied  to match the bottom and/or grass colors are popular with Florida bonefish guides.

Don't head for the Keys without a few bonefish flies that are tied with weed guards.

Featuring a red nose made with florescent tying thread, and a tri-color wing, this black/green/white Clouser tied by Ron Russell of Virginia Beach is not only a proven striped bass producer; this Clouser color combination has produced a few outstanding coldwater catches for Ron.  On a trip to Iceland, this pattern accounted for three brown trout over 8 pounds.

This is Ron's favorite all around Clouser color combination.
