Mustad make a J-hook in their Ultra Point series the 9175UPBLN, a chemically sharpened carbon steel hook with a black chrome finish that is an economical alternative to the Owner AKI. The Mustad Ultra Point hook as compared to the AKI hook, both in a 2/0 size, the Mustad hook has slightly small wire diameter, and a slightly shorter hook shank, and the point of the Mustad hook is a needle point as compared to the "cutting" point of the AKI hook. I have used the Mustad to tie tarpon flies, and have taken fish up through the 80 pound class without any complaints.
Mustad 9175UPBLN retail for $3 to $4 for a box of 25.
The Mustad Big Gun Live Bait Hook has preformed well for me as a Tarpon fly hook. It's strong, yet the wire is not too heavy. If you order any on-line, just beware that they are sized a little large. The size #1 is what I choose when tying a tarpon fly pattern that I would normally tie on a 2/0 hook of other model hooks.

Finesse Wide Gap Hooks by Gamakatsu are an interesting super sharp short shank wide gap hook. They would serve well as substitutes for the Mosquito Hooks I use on so many of my favorite backcountry fly patterns, except the hook shank is too short to effectively accommodate a mono weed guard. It is none the less, an interesting hook; one that is relatively strong, and sticks fish well; unfortunately, I just have not found a pattern to tie on this hook that is not a compromise of what I could tie with a Mosquito Hook.
